MWSF 2022 Scholarship Recipient
Ruth Solomon
Ruth Solomon was awarded a $2500 per year (4 years) scholarship by The Minority Women in Science Foundation Scholarship. My name is Ruth Solomon and I am graduating with an advanced diploma from South County High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. In the coming fall, I plan to attend The College of William & Mary and major in Biology on a pre-med track. My goal is to become a traveling Obstetrician and Gynecologist. My interest was first sparked when I visited Ethiopia and heard about the increase in maternal issues due to the lack of health care centers and workers. This inspired me to be part of the medical field so I can help women and girls in developing countries. I enjoy giving back to my community, some of my volunteering work includes tutoring young children at my local church. I also have shadowed an OB/GYN at the INOVA hospital in Falls Church. This experience heightened my interest to work on improving women's health. As a proud Ethiopian-American, I founded the Ethiopian-Eritrean Association at my high school. This club creates a safe environment for Ethiopian and Eritrean students while also educating them about the political and social issues happening back home. I live with my parents and two younger brothers in Lorton, Virginia. My favorite hobbies include reading mystery books and biking with my brothers. |
